How can I customize the columns on the monitor tab/position statement?

To customize the columns on your Position Statement, click on the small wrench icon above the far-right column that you see in that section (it will be either “Margin Req” or “BP Effect” depending on your settings). If you do not see the wrench, you are probably on the “Old Layout” – click “Switch to New Layout” and the wrench will appear. Once you have clicked on that wrench you will see a button appear on that same row labeled “Customize Columns”. From here, you can select any available criteria as a column header and put them in the desired order.

How do I add money or reset my PaperMoney account?

To reset your PaperMoney account back to its default values, go to the Monitor > Activity and Positions tab on your PaperMoney account. At the top-right of the Position Statement there is a button, “Reset All Positions”. Click this button then confirm, and all of your positions will be reset to zero and your account net liquidation value will be set back to $100,000.

If you simply want to add or remove cash in the account, right-click on one of your positions in the paperMoney account and you will see an option to “Adjust Cash” or “Adjust Forex Cash” in the contextual drop-down menu.

To remove a single position from your PaperMoney account, right-click on that position in the Position Statement and select "Adjust Position" on the drop-down menu. Click this, and on the menu that then appears enter the number of shares/contracts you would like to remove and the cost per unit that you would like to pay/recieve. Click "OK" and you're all set.

How can I setup my positions in custom groups?

How can I arrange my positions on the Position Statement?

You can arrange your positions by creating custom subgroups or you may instead choose to arrange them by group, instrument, trade time, order or a particular type of option strategy/product. Simply go to the upper left-corner of the position statement and click the drop down boxes next to ‘Group’ or ‘Arrange Positions’ to view the available actions.

I have a closed/expired position on my account. When will it be removed from the Position Statement?

Normally, after you close a position it will drop off the Position Statement overnight. However, if your position has been closed for some time or is expired and did not clear out, be sure to check that you do not have it assigned to a custom subgroup. If so, you will need to right-click the position and select Move to Group>Default Group.

The position will automatically move back to the default subgroup and clear out overnight. If you want to delete the entire custom subgroup, simply click the wrench icon to the far right of the group and select ‘Delete Group.’

If you have many subgroups and you wish to delete them all, go to the upper right corner of the Position Statement and click the ‘Reset Groups’ button. All positions will return to the default subgroup accordingly.

Where do I go to beta-weight my portfolio?

Go to Monitor>Activity and Positions>Position Statement and check the box next to ‘Beta-Weighting’ in the upper right-corner. You can then enter any symbol you wish to use.

How do I change the BP Effect column to show only the margin requirement?

Go to the upper right-corner of the platform and select Setup>Application Settings>General and click the drop down box next to ‘Position Margin/BP Effect’ and select ‘MARGIN REQ.’

How can I view P/L Percent or P/L Year on my Position Statement?

Go to the upper right-corner of the thinkorswim® platform and select Setup>Application Settings>General and click the drop down box next to ‘Position P/L layout’ to select the layout you wish to use.

On my current positions, is there an easy way to view my purchase price and purchase date?

Yes, you can do this by expanding your position on the Monitor>Activity and Positions tab. Then, click on the quantity and a box populates that shows you the trade date as well as the purchase price.

Why do my positions have a purchase price of $0.00?

We may need to update your cost basis if this is the case. Please email support@thinkorswim.com so that we can rectify this for you.

How do I view previous trades?

Navigate to the Monitor>Account Statement tab. You can then change the dates viewed in the upper right hand corner to your desired time frame. Then, expand the “Trade History” section or the “Cash & Sweep Vehicle” section to view your previous transactions.

My position has fractional shares, how do I sell these?

To liquidate your fractional shares, simply enter an order to close all of the full shares and the fractional shares will liquidate on market close. For example, if you have 25.65 shares, enter an order to sell 25 full shares and the .65 will liquidate when the market closes.
